ASTRO EVENTS —- DECEMBER 2007

December 2007

December 1: Mercury enters Sagittarius. The planet of communications helps lift our spirits in jovial Sagittarius for the next 3 weeks.

December 5: Venus enters Scorpio. The planet of love, beauty, and sensuality enters the sign of human magnetism and is joined by her sensitive sister, the Moon, on the same day. This deeply feminine meeting makes us aware of attractions we might otherwise not have noticed but should be cautious about revealing.

December 9: New Moon in Sagittarius. The Sun and Moon merge in the midst of an auspicious Sagittarius pageant highlighted by the imminent conjunction of Jupiter and Pluto near the Galactic Center. Whatever our earthly fears and uncertainties, it’s hard not to feel that “Something wonderful is about to happen” as we celebrate not only the holidays but also the 30th anniversary of the release of Close Encounters of the Third Kind and the discovery of Chiron. What a difference three decades can make on our small planet.

December 11: Jupiter conjunct Pluto at 28 degrees Sagittarius. Realizations of greater truths and universal governing principles take center stage both personally and collectively: What goes up must come down, and what falls is certain to rise again in some new form. It’s not really about whether things are getting better or worse as much as the necessity to allow for the restoration of balance, equilibrium, and trust.

December 18: Jupiter enters Capricorn. Jupiter bids farewell to its own sign and paves the way for a succession of planets to enter Capricorn during the next month. With so much focused in the sign of responsibility and institutional authority during 2008, it is certain that changes and reform are in store for any ivory tower out of touch with its constituency.

December 19: Saturn turns retrograde in Virgo. On the eve of a holiday gathering in Capricorn, its ruling planet Saturn retraces his steps until early May of 2008. Saturn retrograde is a good time to review what we have experienced and learned since it entered Virgo last September.

December 20: Mercury enters Capricorn. Our thoughts move from festivities to the more traditional and practical as Mercury enters Capricorn. Year end tax planning and how to pay for seasonal shopping are just two of many timely considerations as we complete the year.

December 21: Winter Solstice Sun enters Capricorn. The dawn of the winter becomes a busy intersection with the Sun, Mercury, and Jupiter gathering in the first 3 degrees of Capricorn with Pluto soon to follow. It’s hard to believe this will be just another ordinary winter season as major changes loom on the horizon.

December 23: Full Moon in Cancer. A brilliant Full Moon just after the darkest day of the year in the northern hemisphere may bring a welcome “luster of midday to objects below…” However, our “long winter naps” will have to wait, as this lunation aligns with Mars in Cancer to oppose three planets in Capricorn along with Pluto making for more restlessness than silence in our nights.

December 31: Mars retrograde enters Gemini. Mars greets the New Year by stepping from Cancer back into Gemini where it left off on September 28th. Retrograde planets may coincide with us slowing down in our lives, but Father Time steps ever forward, undeterred in his march.
