Esoteric Wisdom of the Tarot
Tarot….the name has been around for centuries.What is it about the mystification and fascination that has surrounded these cards for over 500 years?
The history of the Tarot belongs to the Western Mystery Tradition, and is a controversial issue, partly for reasons such as place of origin and the century in which it first appeared. According to history the Tarot originated in northern Italy in the 15th century, and this would be where the earliest names for the Tarot started. Intially the cards were known as “Carte Da Trinofi”, or the ” cards of the triumphs” Almost 100 years later a new game of triumphs was introduced and they were known as tarocchi, in which these cards were different, instead of very lavish hand painted decks from the courts of nobility, “tarocchi” was being played with ordinary playing cards.
In today’s society, Tarot is highly popular, filled with knowledge and wisdom portrayed in pictures and symbols. Within the mystical deck, it is divided into two groups, the major and minor arcana. The major arcana consist of 22 cards, which is the core of the deck. When these cards appear in a reading take notice. They are a representation of our lessons and obstacles which are presented throughout our lives. The minor arcana contains the remaining 56 cards, and represent our emotions, concerns, and our everyday events in life.
The 78 cards offer us the chance to explore our subconscious and learn from it in order to enhance our lives. It can give the seeker a way to live a more spiritual life offering a journey of self-discovery and fulfillment.
The cards continue to fascinate all who have consulted the Tarot over the hundreds of years that it has been in existence. When we consult the cards we are seeking to understand the spiritual patterns, aspirations, and hidden motivations that underlie in our lives. The images and symbols that the Tarot pictures illustrate create a bridge between the conscious and unconscious and connect us with our weaknesses, strengths and our potential.
The Tarot journey through life encompasses all of our experiences that we are likely to have. The coded symbols tap into the secrets of the human heart and the divine law of the universe. To understand these mysteries is to understand the mysteries of our own life and the blueprint we all carry within ourselves.
